2008 Guide to Halloween on TVWatch the Scariest Shows and Movies on Television This Season
The 2008 Halloween television season offers up very scary movies, shows and documentaries including classics, slasher flicks and a live ghost hunting investigation.
The Halloween television schedule is ripe with scary movie classics, terrifying horror flicks and entertaining reality shows and documentaries. Here are some of the best listings that the Halloween television season has to offer in 2008. 31 Days of Halloween on Sci-Fi ChannelDuring the month of October, Sci-Fi will air 31 days worth of scary flicks, some of which include a bunch of low-budget, tacky horror flicks. Rest assured, however, that if you're not the cheesy horror flick type, then you can also tune in to some classics like Friday the 13th, The Thing and the original Saw. Check out SciFi.com for a complete listing and schedule. Travel Channel Premiers New Reality Show About GhostsBeginning on October 17th at 8 p.m. the Travel Channel will begin airing a new show titled Ghost Adventures, starring three paranormal investigators: Zac Bagans, Nick Groff and Aaron Goodwin. The premier episode actually aired last year on Sci-Fi Channel, so for some of us, this might be a repeat. Bagans, Groff and Goodwin travel the United States and the world searching for evidence of ghosts and hauntings. The show has a very raw, unedited feel which as The Blair Witch Project proved, can really do wonders for the suspense and believability factors. One paranormal investigative technique employed by these guys - brutally taunting spirits to come out and play - is already receiving a bit of attention and controversy from viewers. Catch a new paranormal investigation every Friday at 8 p.m. on the Travel Channel. Thirteen Days of Halloween on ABCFrom October 19th to the 31st, you can watch everything from the slightly annoying but weirdly compelling Scariest Places on Earth to the fantastically enjoyable Beatlejuice. On Halloween night at 7:30 p.m. you can tune in to a Halloween favorite, Poltergeist. Rob Zombie Hosts AMC's FearFestBeginning on October 24th, Rob Zombie will host AMC's FearFest from a morgue and boiler room for 175 hours straight. This is where you'll find titles like The Mummy (the original), Bride of Frankenstein, and Pet Semetary. You can also catch flicks like the original Halloween and it's follow-ups, Jeepers Creepers and Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday. The marathon will lead up to the properly named Evil 8 Countdown featuring eight terrifying movies. Evil 8 Countdown will begin at 7:30 a.m. on October 31st and end at 12 a.m. Throughout the marathon, Zombie will interview actors and offer unscripted commentary on various films. Live Ghost Hunters Investigation on Sci-Fi Halloween NightEveryone's favorite plumbers next to Joe the Plumber, Rhode Islanders Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson team up every Wednesday night at 9 p.m. on the Sci-Fi Channel to catch evidence of paranormal activity in various haunted locations throughout the United States. As if the weekly show wasn't scary enough, Hawes and Wilson continue the live, annual Ghost Hunters Halloween tradition this year at Civil War POW Camp Fort Delaware. The investigation will begin on October 31st at 7 p.m. on Sci-Fi Channel and will end at 2 p.m. For those wishing to brave Halloween night basking in the glow of live Ghost Hunters night vision and thermal camera shots, know that you can also use your computer to check out live webcams not featured on the show. If you want to point out evidence or make comments, you'll also have access to chat rooms and message boards at scifi.com. Evidence from the live show will be condensed into a follow-up show that will air on November 6th at 9 p.m. on Sci-Fi. Possibly the Scariest Movie Ever Made: The ExorcistWhile The Exorcist might play on television, the edited version will not hold up to the unedited version. For those of us who truly crave fear this Halloween season, then you're going to have to rent this one. Make sure you don't miss a moment - unless of course, you find yourself hiding under a blanket. You can always rewind if you can bring yourself to do so.
