How to Survive a Stalker MovieA Guide to Help When a Killer Comes KnockingAt any time, an unwarranted killer can come knocking. It is best to be prepared by using examples from cinema than to be caught unprepared.
It is time to get serious about reality. With the road the world is taking, it is only a matter of time before every person in America has to deal with the inevitable, the unavoidable…the killer at the front door. Yes, inspired by the recent release of movies such as The Strangers and Funny Games, it seems apparent that everyone is need of a guide to help them survive a stalker knocking on their window! Declaring Your ObjectiveSurvival is a relative term when the killer comes right to your front door. But, with that said, it is a completely obtainable goal if you have the will to survive. Many factors play into your survival method like: location, people in your group and your own physical fitness level (for this situation, we are using a house). However, first things first, and that is figuring out how many people are trying to kill you. This may be the most difficult question to answer, as not all killers will show themselves at the same time (refer to Scream for multiple stalkers). One Man Knocking at Your DoorIf there was a choice between one killer and a gang of killers, most people would probably choose just the one. So, let’s start there. For the most part, if the killer is working solo, it is because he has some sort of beef with the potential victim (Prom Night, When a Stranger Calls). This usually will not work in your favor as the killer will probably know how to rouse you and when to strike. Since this is worst case scenario, it is the best to prepare for. Telling someone to lock their doors is not enough, and neither is simply saying run or call the police (even though escape is ultimately your best bet). If the killer strikes via some form of warning (phone call, knocking on door, email, message in blood…etc.), then you must prepare for an attack soon after. When preparing, remember that you have the leg up on turf. So, as soon as the attacker enters, make your attack a defensive one (involving running, hiding, and attacking). Keep in mind that you do know the lay out of your house and where the best weapons are. It is paramount to equip yourself with a sharp, short range weapon, a blunt object, AND something with a reach. This way, you can keep your attacker at bay, knock him out, or even go for the coup de grace. So, find a decent spot, and surprise your would be attacker with an attack of your own. Oh No, They Caught Me Not LookingIf you find him close on your heels while you run up the stairs (I Will Always Know What you Did Last Summer), then you better hope you are faster. Locked doors and bathrooms will buy you some time, but not much. Simple distractions might slow him down, so make use of tables, plants, chairs, and any pianos you have in your hallways. Unfortunately, the stalker probably will not give up this easily, either, so you shouldn’t either. Always remember to never give up, as you may find yourself trapped in your own home. As the chase continues, remember to make use of your light (killers always seem to think that turning out the lights will the hunt all the easier). However, in reality, the killer is at much of a disadvantage as you are with the lights off (The Strangers, Saw, Black Christmas). Just remember, you will be safest if you are on the run, armed, and ready for anything. Even if you decide to hide out, be prepared for anything! And even if you think you have made it, still look around every corner. But most of all, trust no one!
