Twilight Coming To DVD in Vampire Movie RevivalThe impact of Twilight on Pop Culture and CinemaIn November 2008, a movie version of the wildly popular vampire book series "Twilight" hit theaters. It was an immediate hit, and sparked a sensational phenomenon.
"Twilight" has graduated cult status and has become a bona-fide cultural achievement. Fans of the romantic vampire books and subsequent film have proven to be fiercely loyal to the series, and in March they will be able to bring the film to their own home video collections. Twilight Coming To DVDThe celebrated vampire movie is coming to DVD and Blu-ray on March 21st, 2009. A two disc special edition is slated to contain special features such as extended and deleted scenes and a multi-part documentary covering the making of the film. Disc 1, in addition to the feature film, will also present:
Disc 2:
Some stores have announced exclusive editions with content unavailable anywhere else, including Borders, whose DVD "Gift Set" includes plenty of extras such as interviews with the cast and crew and discussions of the book with the author, Stephanie Meyer. Walmart's "Twilight" exclusives include a low cost version one disc DVD retailing at around $17 as well as an array of tie-in and promotional merchandise. Target and Best Buy will exclusively carry the Blu-ray HD version of "Twilight" until May 5th, when it will become available elsewhere. Other Romantic VampiresOf course, vampire films have often been associated with gothic and romantic content. Some of the other films to have an appeal outside of the horror genre are Joel Shumacher's 1987 hit "The Lost Boys" starring Corey Haim and the adaptation of Anne Rice's "Interview With the Vampire" featuring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Both of those films are available on multiple DVD offerings, as well as Blu-ray HD format. Most recently, Sweden's "Let the Right One In" has had an artistic impact on the genre. The film tells a haunting, dark, "coming of age" story about a young boy who meets a female vampire and the impact their friendship has on both of their lives. "Let the Right On In" comes to DVD on March 10th. The Future of TwilightWith the incredible success of the "Twilight" film, a sequel was inevitable. "Twilight: New Moon" has been announced, with a tentative release date of November 20th, 2009. Also, a US remake of "Let the Right One In" is also on the horizon, with Matt Reeves ("Cloverfield") at the directorial helm.
